Johannesburg casino and entertainment complex Montecasino and loyalty and smart card management company Infinity have developed a new network to expand the casino`s loyalty card programme to external vendors.

Montecasino spokesman Rochelle van der Ross says Montecasino`s original Club Festival loyalty card initiative operated as a closed-loop programme, with earnings and redemption limited to the gaming area.

The limits were mainly due to the lack of a suitable technology platform to allow for a seamless transition between earning and redeeming between the casino environment and merchants outside this environment.

The new system was developed in-house, in conjunction with Infinity, on Microsoft platforms, says Van der Ross, adding that the solution runs on a multi-layered, fully-secured network, ensuring maximum uptime with fully-redundant infrastructure.

Van der Ross says the new system is one of the first open-loop loyalty systems in the casino industry in SA.

"Cardholders receive instant benefits in the form of real money value that, although it cannot be cashed out, can be used at any one of the many participating partners. Points earned in the casino can be converted into CashBack and redeemed at any Infinity merchant and vice versa," she notes, adding that Infinity partners include the Automobile Association, Hi-Fi Corporation and Midas.
