More bandwidth with STARsystem cabling solution

Johannesburg, 20 Feb 2001

Fibreplus, a supplier of optic cables and accessories, has announced the release of R&M`s freenet STARsystem, a structured, generic building cabling solution based on the new E and F transmission classes.

R&M (Reichle & De-Massari AG) based in Zurich-Wetzikon, Switzerland, is an international telecommunications company producing market connecting hardware and complementary accessories for WAN and LAN environments.

STARsystem features Class E generic building cabling on a horizontal plane, between the floor distributor and the workstation outlets. Configured as four twisted pairs, this Cat.6 cable can be combined with the new Cat. 6 connection modules for and fast applications.

"STARsystem gives you more bandwidth and hence greater reliability," says Lan Ray, technical director at Fibreplus.

"The distinctive feature of the class E solution - and a world first - is the new blue R&M freenet Cat. 6 connection module. This offers significantly more bandwidth and higher performance, combined with downward compatibility to categories 5 and 5e.

"It also guarantees compatibility with future standards. Other advantages include long-term mechanical and electrical stability and the use of the primary colour blue to distinguish Cat. 6 visibly from the other modules," maintains Ray.

He advises that STARsystem is ideal for companies that work with large quantities of time-sensitive data. Such data place huge demands on network reliability and availability.

A hundred percent network availability is absolutely essential when real-time applications, voice-over IP and video communications are being used.

"Good examples of sectors that require this system include banks, airports and multimedia companies," Ray adds.
