The Department of Communications (DOC) will lose its media liaison officer, Joe Makhafola, to JSE-listed IT business Allied Technologies (Altech).
Makhafola joined the department in October 2007. "It has been an honour and privilege serving the government of my choice," says Makhafola.
He notes that he has accepted an offer by Altech to take up a position as the group`s executive for corporate affairs, marketing, government liaison and regulatory affairs. "What is pleasing is that I am not lost to the ICT sector."
According to Makhafola, his experience with the DOC should set him in a good position in his new job. "I have made lots of friends during my tenure at the Ministry of Communications and wish to continue harnessing such mutually beneficial and blessed friendships in my future endeavours."
Makhafola says he is pleased about the opportunity to work for Altech. "This could not have come at a more opportune time when the world of ICT is now touching lives."
Altech and the DOC have had a tumultuous relationship over the last few years. Makhafola`s move to the business could be a boon for its ministerial relationships.
The company had not commented by the time of publication.
