More complications for 'Telkom Simple'

Johannesburg, 07 Feb 2011

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has delivered another ruling regarding complaints about Telkom's 'Simple' ADSL and voice solution.

commercial promoting the product was misleading and discriminates against Telkom's existing clients, because they are not eligible for the package in question.

Telkom said it initially amended the radio commercial to indicate the offer is only available to new customers. However, as of 1 January, it is no longer being aired, stated the company.

The authority accepted the undertaking, on condition that the commercial in question is not used again in its current format.

This is the telco's second run-in with the authority regarding promotional material relating to its 'Simple' product.

ASA recently rapped Telkom over the knuckles for using the word “fast” in relation to the Telkom Simple ADSL product in promotional material.

The authority ruled that the speeds offered by this product “are the slowest available speeds on the market”.
