Morphlabs takes cloud to US

Morphlabs is brining its cloud computing services to the US, states CTO Edge.

The company currently sells cloud computing services in Europe and other parts of the world through its mCloud platform. The company says it plans to recruit a variety of managed service in the US to market the service under its mCloud brand.

The platform uses controller software to organise virtual machines into logical zones, provides self-service portal software, monitoring tools, backups and interfaces that developers can use to build applications on top of the service.

Cloud puts at risk

The biennial Information Security Breaches Survey from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) says nearly two-thirds of companies have detected attempts to break into their networks in the past year, according to V3.co.uk.

The figures from the report indicate the rise is due to the increased use of cloud computing and social networking inside the enterprise.

"Virtualisation and cloud computing seem set to follow the trend established over the past decade of controls lagging behind adoption of new technologies," says Chris Potter, a partner at PWC. "Given the increased criticality and confidentiality of information held in virtual storage, organisations need to respond quickly to close this control gap."

Collaboration to build cloud trust

VeriSign unveiled an industry collaboration aimed at building trusted online identity solutions, reports India PRwire.

The collaboration combines technologies and best practices from Conformity, Ping Identity, TriCipher, Qualys, and VeriSign. The goal is to work on the authentication and protection of identities to establish a trust model in the cloud.

"Barriers to cloud adoption go beyond security; it's about trust," says Jim Reavis, executive director at the Cloud Security Alliance. "This industry effort is a welcome contribution to the SaaS community, and a reassuring and valuable option for enterprises aiming to confidently deploy cloud-based applications and services."
