In order to focus on their core business Motor Company of Botswana (MCB) has turned to Blue Sky Networks for a " turn key " outsourced solution for their new car manufacturing facility in Gabarone. MCB will manufacture both the Hyundai and Volvo brands and will sell in Botswana and South Africa via its dealer network. Blue Sky Networks was awarded the project over fierce competition, based on their history of delivering total solutions. " Blue Sky Networks has the know-how and capacity to implement a complete solution", says Eric Blom, Account Manager, Blue Sky Networks. MCB believes that by outsourcing to Blue Sky Networks they will gain a specialist team to focus on their IT, freeing them to stick to their core business operations and create a more streamlined production plant. The project is significant in that it is the first complete IT outsource project in Botswana. It involves LAN, WAN, PABX, servers (Sun and Intel), and workstations (HP), which are bundled with a portfolio of Blue Sky's ATLAS support services. Included in the ATLAS support service offering is 3 on site engineers, a full customer response centre, remote systems and network support and management and a full business continuity service. Blue Sky Networks will support an estimated 200 seats on a 24 hour basis. Blue Sky Networks has also provided MCB with a VPN, which will go live at the end of April 1998 and is in accordance with MCB's philosophy of partnering with its suppliers to create a community whereby MCB can better implement a "Just in Time" manufacturing philosophy. This will keep MCB in line with World car manufacturing standards. According to Naas Ferreira, IT Manager at MCB, Blue Sky Networks was awarded the tender because of their strong presence in Botswana as well as their "dynamic and customer focused philosophy". He felt that "Blue Sky Networks and MCB have developed a true business partnership, which has continued throughout the installation.
