Motorola invests in Android

PC Mag.

The equity investment in Moblyng was joined by Mohr Davidow Ventures and Deep Fork Capital, the company says. Moblyng games have been published for Android, Facebook, iOS and WebOS platforms and have been downloaded more than nine million times, the company said.

But the real motivation may be in Moblyng's tag line, which claims that the company is "the leading publisher and developer of HTML5 games for mobile devices and social networks".

"Motorola Mobility Ventures seeks out the most innovative and promising new companies in which to invest, and we found a strong synergy between our vision for the future of mobile and Moblyng's strategic direction," says Harshul Sanghi, MD of Motorola Mobility Ventures, reports PR Newswire.

"As an early Android developer, Moblyng is very excited to work with Motorola Mobility, the leading Android smartphone and tablet provider," says Stewart Putney, CEO and founder of Moblyng.

Chicago Sun Times says Motorola Mobility has introduced dozens of smartphones, such as the Atrix 4G, the Droid Bionic and the Cliq2, as well as the Xoom tablet. No investment amount was disclosed, but Motorola Mobility's equity arm typically invests up to $5 million.

Last week, Motorola Mobility said its venture arm had put money behind Catch Media, a Beverly Hills, California-based company that makes software enabling people to access content from a variety of devices.
