Motorola mulls NFC gadgets

Motorola is set to introduce near field communications (NFC), the technology behind contactless payments like London's Oyster Card, into its enterprise products, reports eWeek.

NFC has been viable for some time, but has failed to thrive in mobile devices, despite various promises.

Motorola says it aims to outfit future business products with NFC technology for contactless payments, according to RFID News.

Although Motorola has kept mum about the specifics of the initiative, Andy McBain, Motorola's senior mobile computing and radio frequency identification (RFID) product manager, says the company is “working to introduce a development to support contactless adoption.”

The company recently added the MC75A HF RFID contactless mobile computing to its portfolio, states Telecom Paper.

The device is designed for enterprises that require enhanced connectivity for secure payment transactions.

The mobile computer features a 3.5G worldwide phone, two-way radio communications, barcode scanner, and an RFID reader for contactless communication.
