"The IEC`s InfoVision award recognises companies for products and services introduced in the past year that have added a new dimension not only to the information industry, but society as a whole," said Motorola SA operations director, cellular infrastructure group, Fred Coetzer.
The InfoVision award is based on the IEC`s long-standing ComForum awards, which recognises innovative technologies and services within the telecommunications industry.
The M-Cellaccess product is a compact, lightweight base station for GSM 900 and GSM 1800 networks, designed to provide high-quality mobile coverage and capacity within in-building environments. GSM, or global system for mobile communications, is the world`s leading digital wireless standard.
Based on a distributed architecture design, the M-Cellaccess system provides a cost-effective and highly flexible solution to in-building subscriber demand, in commercial and private premises. It allows operators to add capacity where cell traffic is generated.
"Unique to the M-Cellaccess base station is its speed of installation and use of a building`s existing telephone or data cabling to achieve the communications link back to the GSM cluster controller," added Coetzer.
Worldwide, Motorola CIG has won more than 80 GSM contracts in more than 40 countries, providing equipment for both GSM 900 and GSM 1800 systems.
