Move over ADSL: The AirCard 850 is here!

No one has ever complained about mobile data access being too fast, but with the future-ready AirCard 850 3G wireless wide area network card from Sierra Wireless - for quite a while at least - you should be able to avoid complaints about it being too slow.

The AirCard 850, exclusively distributed in South Africa by Leaf Wireless, enables 3G data speeds up to 1.8Mbps over HSDPA-capable (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) UMTS wireless networks.

The major cellular operators are already trialing this turbo-charged version of 3G data, quicker than Telkom`s DSL 1024, with commercial roll-outs starting before the middle of 2006. In the future speeds of up to 14.4Mbps are theoretically possible. Indeed, local, fixed "broadband" offerings may not be "the fastest way to connect to the Internet" for much longer.

Quinton Leigh, Managing Director of Leaf Wireless, comments: "With Sierra`s latest card, users will enjoy secure, global wireless access to the Internet, e-mail, corporate networks/VPN, and streaming video on their mobile PC wherever the mobile operators provide network coverage. Applications once limited to wired connections or WiFi hotspots are now possible anywhere you want to work or play." Installation is quick and simple, with a rugged and reliable design.

The AirCard 850 features HSDPA/UMTS on the 2 100MHz frequency band but also gives you global quad-band backup support for EDGE/GPRS/GSM networks, meaning you can connect at the best speed available even if HSDPA is not supported where you are at the time. Global roaming gives you access to information anytime, anywhere you need it.
