Movie-making made easy with new uvs6 software

A new software that easily captures video material from cameras and VCRs, has powerful editing features and allows the end-product movie to be shared on tape, e-mail, the Internet or in the form of high quality DVDs and VCDs, has been launched in SA by JSE-listed distributor Square One Solutions Group.

Known as Ulead Video Studio 6 (UVS6), the software has been developed by leading international image editing, video editing and Web graphics software developer, Ulead Systems Inc.

"This is a powerful product that provides users with a multiplicity of options in editing, allowing them to exploit their creative flair to the fullest in developing highly professional movies," says Lisa Jackson, divisional manager responsible for Ulead products at Square One Solutions.

"There's an intuitive new user interface for editing that gives superior control, allows large previews and turns the editing process into great fun, while an eight-step workflow model guides users smoothly through the entire process. More than 100 Hollywood-style effects can be used to create professional and impactful transitions between video clips."

Among the key features in the capture function are the easy transfer of video from DV/D8/Hi8 camcorders, VCRs, PC cameras and TV tuner cards. Time and disk space savings accrue from the ability to capture DVD-ready MPEG video directly from the camcorder or other device. Captured video scenes are automatically split into separate, easy-to-manage files. A batch capture feature captures selected video clips with a click of the mouse.

Within the editing suite are features such as 30 customisable filters for touching up video and adding creative effects; the creation of animated text along motion paths that give stunning results; the ability to add voice narration and create soundtracks from favourite music CDs or MP3 files; and the overlay of video, images and 3D titles onto movies for brilliant picture-in-picture effects The software allows preview editing changes to be made in real-time at pixel-perfect, full video resolution and users can arrange clips and add transitions with drag-and-drop ease using the storyboard layout. Audio, video and titles can be edited with frame-level accuracy in timeline mode. The sharing functions allow users to produce videos for CD, DVD, tape, e-mail and Internet streaming and record video back to DV/D8 tape for showing on TV or recording to VHS.

UVS6 supports AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, Windows Media, RealVideo, QuickTime and other programs and the DVD/Video CD Authoring Wizard enables users to create their own VCD, SVCD or DVD format movies in as few as four simple steps. Ready-made, professional looking templates allow interactive scene menus to be built and customised with minimum effort and speed.

The authoring wizard also allows discs to be burned with CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW drives and discs can be played on home DVD players or computers using DVD playback software.
