Moving data between computers - at a click of the mouse

Johannesburg, 11 Aug 2011

Specialist distributor Phoenix Software has added Laplink to its list of premium vendors, offering products such as the Laplink PCmover into the channel. The addition of the Laplink brand to the distributor's portfolio provides Phoenix Software's resellers with a valuable add-on that fits into all hardware and software ranges.

"Understanding the needs of the market, as well as the requirements of our resellers, we felt that Laplink would provide a necessary addition to any portfolio,” says Anton Vukic, Channel Director at Phoenix Software.

“Laplink products provide a variety of solutions to help businesses improve productivity and making moving and sharing data easy.”

Laplink's flagship product, for example, PCmover, transfers installed applications, files, user accounts, and settings from an old to a new PC automatically, eliminating the pain of upgrading. PCmover supports full migrations as well as upgrades to Windows 7 from recent versions of Windows, including fast and easy in-place upgrades from XP to Windows 7.

“PCmover does all the work - automating what would otherwise take many hours and could result in lost data or programs,” explains Vukic. "PCmover is the only software that can successfully migrate applications, files and settings from an old PC to a new PC, and the fact that it is now the top-selling product in its class in retail stores across the United States is testament to its ease of use.”

PCmover transfers files, settings, and programs from an old PC to a new one, across any network connection, a USB cable, or using removable media such as a CD or DVD. Unlike other migration solutions, PCmover transfers both conventional and specialised programs even if the PCs are running different operating systems. With a failsafe 'Undo' feature that allows users to roll back a migration at any point, and full overwrite protection for the new system, PCmover is the safe and stress-free way to capture the functionality and personality of the old PC on the new model with a consumer-friendly and wizard-based approach.

Transfers can take place via peer-to-peer LAN, WAN, USB, or portable storage device, and take anywhere between 30 minutes to several hours (depending on amount of data), with a two to three minute per GB benchmark. In addition, the product is hardware independent - PCmover can transfer between PC models, such as Toshiba to Dell, or HP to Samsung, for example.

“The software's success reflects its ability to eliminate manual steps required by other PC migration products that fail to move Windows applications or other components, forcing users to search for old software CDs and serial numbers in order to replicate the old PC set-up on the new machine. With PCmover, new PC owners simply click through a simple migration wizard and the software does the rest with no manual intervention,” Vukic concludes.
