Netscape-based open source browser Mozilla Firefox has increased its share of the global browsing environment, taking up slack as Microsoft`s Internet Explorer slows.
Web analytics firm OneStat.com found that Mozilla Firefox`s browsers have a total global usage share of 12.93%.
The total usage share of Mozilla Firefox increased 1.14% since May, while the total global usage share of Internet Explorer is 83.05%, which is 2.12% less than in May.
"It seems the global usage share of Mozilla Firefox started to grow rapidly again after a period of no growth" said Niels Brinkman, co-founder of OneStat.com.
The research company`s July figures indicate Microsoft is still the most popular browser at 83%, and its closest contender is Mozilla at 12.93%. Apple`s Safari claims 1.84%, while Opera has a percent stake and Netscape only 0.16%.
Mozilla`s largest fan base is in Germany, where it has a 39.02% user base, compared to Microsoft`s 55.99%. Microsoft is most popular in the UK, with an 86.23% share of the market compared to Mozilla`s 11.65%.
