MPLS from Internet Solutions is medium-agnostic

State of the art access via any method - from dialup to dedicated
Johannesburg, 01 Jun 2005

Internet Solutions (IS) has over six years of experience and accumulated skills with Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), making it the country`s leading provider of the technology. IS engineers have worked on making MPLS VPN connectivity medium-independent.

"What this means to our customers, is that no matter what their chosen connectivity medium, we will ensure that their access to our MPLS network is seamless," says Mark Hamburger, General Manager, VPN (Virtual Private Networks) Solutions at IS.

Managed and serviced by IS, over 80% of the country`s top 250 public listed and private companies are on the IS platform.

"Large enterprises consider their networks as mission- and business-critical," says Hamburger, "so it is our job to ensure they have the most reliable, accessible and stable systems that can be delivered.

"The MPLS technology provides this functionality as the data, which comes in many different varieties, is delivered in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, as well as being easily accessible. Once we saw the uptake of MPLS in our enterprise-class customers, we wanted to ensure their branches could gain access to the network via any access medium and from any client device."

Current access methods include Diginet, ATM, wireless, satellite, GSM, dialup, ISDN and the recently added ADSL. Should any other technology emerge, IS will add it to the list. "Adding ADSL connectivity to the MPLS service brings a new dimension to customer connectivity costs," says Hamburger. "It also offers higher bandwidth (compared with ISDN or modem access); providing connectivity to the corporate VPN and allowing faster downloads of documents, e-mail and Web pages, and the rapid transfer of large files. MPLS ADLS is an uncapped service; providing download speeds of up to 512Kbps, and ensuring a high degree of security with an encrypted connection to the MPLS VPN. Internet connectivity, if required, can also be provided."

"Our years of experience with MPLS have allowed us to deliver on customer requirements as and when they change." says Hamburger.
