[VIDEO]Amid thunderous applause, Dali Mpofu, executive director of Altron and chairman of the ICT BEE charter working group, was named IT Personality of the Year last night.
The award, which seeks to recognise individuals that have made a noteworthy contribution to the IT industry and community in the past year, was presented by the Computer Society of South Africa (CSSA), ITWeb and Meta Group at the CSSA president`s annual awards dinner at the Sandton Convention Centre.
Mpofu was heralded for his championing of the ICT BEE charter, and he feels the recognition of this process, even though it is not yet complete, shows it has the backing of the industry.
"I am humbled and honoured," says Mpofu. "This is meaningful for the industry because of my role in the ICT charter. This is recognition to the working group for work that we have done and work that we are doing. That we are receiving recognition before it is complete, bodes well for the charter process."
Runners-up for the award were:
- Dr Alewyn Burger, director of direct banking at Standard Bank
- Phil Duff, Syspro CEO
- Ken Jarvis, SARS CIO
