MS brings IE8 to the enterprise
Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) is now available via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) for organisations that manage updates to systems using this platform, reports Computing.co.uk.
IE8 was officially released earlier this year, and offers greater compliance with Web standards than earlier versions of the browser. It also offers enhanced security features, and the ability for administrators to control some browser behaviour through Group Policy settings in Active Directory.
The browser is available on WSUS now for Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 in all supported languages.
Apple approves VOIP app
Vonage's mobile voice over Internet Protocol app has been approved for use by Apple on the iPhone and iPod Touch, states CNET News.
The Internet telephone service provider said it's conducting a beta test of the app and that general availability will be announced at a later date.
Apple confirmed that Vonage's request for app approval was being held up by technical issues with the Vonage software. An Apple spokesperson said at the time that Apple was working with the developer to resolve the issue but would not elaborate on the nature of the issue.
Lexmark rolls out four MFPs
Four new multi-function printer models (MFPs) have been added to the Lexmark Professional series: The Platinum, Prestige, Prevail and Prospect, says PC World.
All feature 48-bit CIS scanners and can print at up to 33 pages per minute (ppm) in black, 30ppm in colour. The Platinum prints, scans, copies and faxes.
A 50-page automatic document feeder is included, along with 10/100baseT Ethernet, USB 2.0 interface and 802.11n wireless networking. The device is PictBridge-certified and supports direct input from many different flash memory storage cards.
