MS, JahJah partner

Microsoft has signed a partnership with JahJah, a US-based voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) service provider, aimed at improving the quality of VOIP calls made using Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007, reports ChannelWeb.

JahJah is providing Microsoft with SIP trunking services, a key unified communications technology that connects OCS 2007 R2 to carrier networks and enables phones calls made from PCs, VOIP phones and mobile devices to reach their destinations.

This is the initial foray into enterprise IP for JahJah, which also offers a service tailored to the online dating industry that includes anonymous phone calls, SMS and voice mail.

Symantec finds Skype Trojan

Security giant Symantec claims to have found source code for a Trojan that targets Skype users, states PC Authority.

Trojan.Peskyspy is spyware which records a voice call and stores it as an MP3 file for later transmission.

An infected machine will use the software that handles audio processing within a computer and save the call as an MP3. The file is then sent over the Internet to a predefined server where the attacker can listen to the recorded conversations.

VOIP upbeat in tough market

Infonetics Research has revealed that VOIP equipment revenue has reached $598 million in the second quarter this year, up 8% sequentially and down 32% over the second quarter of 2008, says TMCnet.

Diane Myers, directing analyst for service provider VOIP and IMS at Infonetics Research, says the product and competitive landscape of the service provider VOIP equipment market is reshaping in 2009.

Myers adds that stronger vendors have started to thrive even though the overall market is still down when compared to the same period last year.
