Microsoft has confirmed reports that a brief blaze gutted the roof boards of its sales offices in Cape Town this morning.
"A light switch sparked a fire on the second floor in one of our meeting rooms," says office manager Laila Malick. "All 12 staff members have been evacuated and nobody was hurt."
The fire, which started at about 10:50am, left staff "a little shaken up, and we have sent them home for the day," says Malick.
"Atlas Property Management, the management of the building, has been notified and it will be sending in electricians to look into the wiring.
"Atlas has been very helpful. It assures us it`ll have the wiring problem sorted out by Monday. We are just relieved that everybody is okay. At the moment we have no power in the building. We are forced to close the offices until Monday when all wiring will hopefully be fixed," says Malick.
