MS SA COO takes African role

Johannesburg, 25 Jan 2008

Microsoft SA COO Heather Third will take up a new role as the company's special projects director for Africa, at the beginning April.

Third will be responsible for the direction of Microsoft's key strategic projects aimed at bridging the divide, as well as encouraging the growth of local software economies.

"This new role is a wonderful opportunity to drive strategic projects that will help Africa improve its global competitiveness, promote economic growth and improve technology access and skills development for people of all ages," says Microsoft SA MD Pfungwa Serima.

Third joined Microsoft SA in 1998, holding various senior positions, including communications specialist, product manager, marketing manager and business group manager.

In her role as COO, Third focused on driving business and operational efficacy and improving marketing effectiveness for Microsoft SA.

"Heather has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the subsidiary's accelerated double-digit growth plan, as well as overseeing numerous successful product launches over the years," Serima says.

"Her passion for technology and its ability to help people and companies realise their potential will stand her in good stead as she takes on this next chapter in her career," he adds.

Microsoft has not yet appointed Third's successor.
