MS software mimics Facebook Timeline

Money Control writes.

Lifebrowser, as it's being called, will allow users to keep track of their lives. The software is said to go through e-mails, photos, documents and Web browser history, making a timeline of all the events, as they have happened.

The software then lets users browse through time and look at key events.

According to Technology Review, Lifebrowser's interactive timeline looks like a less-polished version of Facebook's recently introduced Timeline feature.

"The motivation behind Lifebrowser is that we have too much stuff going on in our personal spheres," says Eric Horvitz, who created Lifebrowser.

When the software is stumped, it will prompt the user to decide whether a file is significant, Digital Trend says.

While an algorithm is decisively not human, Horvitz believes algorithms can be personal. “This is showing that a model is not only learning about how I think, it's also very warmly understanding what it means to capture humanity.”
