MS targets big with SQL Server 2012
PC World states.
The software will be available for customer purchase on 1 April. With this release, Microsoft is positioning SQL Server as a tool that can help organisations analyse large volumes of unstructured data, an increasingly popular practice called big data.
“With the continually decreasing costs of storage and compute, we've moved into an era where it is more affordable for organisations to store everything,” says Doug Leland, Microsoft GM of its business platform marketing group. “Of course, the challenge is how to derive insight from all these signals.”
Early users of SQL Server 2012 say the software has lived up to its promise, IT Pro reports.
“Our business depends on delivering customers fast, detailed insight into hundreds of terabytes of social network data,” says David Mariani, VP of engineering at influence measurement specialist, Klout.
“With SQL Server 2012 and integrated business intelligence tools, we're processing massive volumes of data queries in near real-time.”
Microsoft also revealed solutions around the new SQL Server, including Fast Track for SQL Server 2012, a reference architecture optimised for performance that combines its database platform with the latest servers and storage from Microsoft partners, V3.co.uk reports.
Also unveiled was an updated version of Microsoft's SQL Server Parallel Data Warehouse, which is designed for delivery on pre-configured data appliance hardware.
