MTC scored positively among employees in a recent Climate survey conducted by independent consultants, Business Intelligence Africa (BIA), in collaboration with P3 Namibia.
Through an online questionnaire to employees at the telecommunications giant, completed between 23 July and 4 August 2010, MTC scored an impressive above 80% survey result. Staff rated the company highest on categories of Market Strategies, followed by Business Practices and Customer Focus, indicating that MTC employees view these categories to have the most positive impact on the organisational climate.
“We have seen a drastic increase in all areas surveyed and that shows that our investment in human capital is now paying off,” said Tim Ekandjo - Chief Human Capital & Corporate Affairs Officer at MTC. “Areas like remuneration that is usually and generally very lowly rated in most surveys all over the world, have also scored impressively,” he stated.
MTC undertakes the Climate survey every two years to assess the current morale and perspectives of all employees of the organisation. The responses of the survey are assessed and analysed into reports, graphs and trends and this information is fed back to management to understand gaps and critical areas as well as develop relevant plans and interventions for the organisation.
“Three-hundred-and-thirty employees completed the questionnaires, which is a response rate of 86.6%. This response rate is very good and it shows that the vast majority of our employees care about their workplace and are prepared to make use of the opportunity to voice their opinions,” noted Ekandjo. “This survey will help management make informed decisions to serving employees, improving customer service and quality and building better teams,” he added.
The questionnaire consisted of 16 categories involving various aspects related to the climate of the company. The results of the data analysis by specialists from BIA and P3 Namibia have been summarised into a set of findings in which all “strongly agree” and “agree” answers have been categorised as positive replies and all “disagree” and “strongly disagree” answers have been categorised as negative replies. To support the quantitative data, qualitative focus group interviews were held with 40 MTC employees from all departments. The main aim was to get more insight into some aspects of the survey and to shed more light on areas where fairly high percentages were expressed during the quantitative survey.
“Management will not only look at the overwhelming positive areas of the survey to build upon, but also and importantly at the areas for improvement bought out by the exercise towards building an even stronger MTC” assured Ekandjo.
