Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC), Namibia`s cellular service provider, recently renewed its existing service contract with UUNET Namibia. The service agreement includes an upgrade on the organisation`s existing Internet lines and the implementation of 11 virtual private network (VPN) circuits.
"The Namibia Internet market was recently opened up, with the introduction of another Internet service provider (ISP). While we have always been proud of our service offering and commitment to our customers, this new operator does increase competition in the market," says Charmain Lingenfelder, account manager at UUNET Namibia. "However, based on our long-standing relationship and customer service, MTC has reaffirmed its commitment to UUNET through the renewal of its service contract."
The new agreement included the installation of a 256k local Internet line and 128k GIP line. Additionally, UUNET Namibia will implement 11 VPN circuits for MTC. "The benefit of a VPN solution is that is allows secure data transmission for third-parties over a shared infrastructure, while adding further value to the infrastructure owned by the telecommunications provider, since UUNET Namibia takes full responsibility of the infrastructure, MTC will not have to worry about information privacy and availability of bandwidth."
According to Andre de Jager at MTC: "UUNET Namibia is a customer centric company that develops solutions for business challenges and opportunities rather than focusing on technology for its own sake. This coupled with its commitment to customer service has reassured us that they are the service provider of choice in Namibia."
UUNET Namibia has almost three years experience delivering VPN services, and will look to map these services throughout the rest of Africa when the time is right, as part of its Pan-African strategy.
