MTN has again added to its enterprise business segment's talent, this time with the appointment of a general manager for small and medium enterprise (SME) channels.

Omotayo Ojutalayo takes up this position, effective immediately, the operator announced this morning.

Ojutalayo joins the company's home branch from MTN Nigeria, where she was a senior manager responsible for the SME customer segment. MTN says the company aims to "ensure greater focus on the SME segment at a group level" with her appointment.

Mteto Nyati, MTN Group chief enterprise officer, says SMEs are a key segment of MTN's customers. "We believe MTN has an opportunity to further aid development in the countries where we operate, by using technology to enable SMEs to grow."

Nyati says this is specifically in line with the company's goal to enable the growth of enterprises in emerging markets.

"As an internal appointment, Ojutalayo is well versed on our business. She has also been working in our Nigerian operation for over four years, with a special focus on the SME segment," he says.

Ojutalayo also has extensive experience in sales and business development, and holds an MBA degree from the University of Lagos.

She will oversee MTN's strategic and go-to-market approach for the SME customer segment, and work closely with enterprise business counterparts in MTN's operations to provide support and aid implementation of the SME value propositions.

The latest appointment follows that of former IBM executive Debbie Minnaar as GM for products and services and forms part of the company's enterprise business unit reorganisation and transformation process.
