MTN and 15 others join Radicchio to promote security in wireless e-commerce

Sixteen industry leaders providing solutions for secure e-commerce announced today that they are joining Radicchio, the global initiative to unleash the potential of wireless e-commerce. Radicchio members now include 28 companies committed to promoting Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions for secure transactions over wireless networks. Launched in September 1999, Radicchio`s most recent members include MTN, Across Wireless AB, Baltimore Technologies, CYLINK Corporation, Entrust Technologies, Gray Cell Inc., iD2 Technologies, Lucent Technologies, MasterCard International, NTT Corporation, Saraide, Synamic Limited, VeriSign Inc., Virgin Mobile, Visa International and Vodafone Airtouch.

Radicchio is the exclusive sponsor of the conference "Wireless E-Commerce - Clearing the Road for Global Expansion", which will take place at the Olympia Conference Centre in London on 13-14 January.

Industry experts from around the world will address topics such as: providing wireless PKI based security in consumer banking; the PMA for cellular telephony; developments in PKI capability for wireless commerce; and, law and regulation relating to digital signatures. Panel discussions cover the APAC perspective on wireless e-commerce and Evaluating security options: SIM toolkit, WAP, iMODE. Two pre-conference workshops on Implementing digital signatures and PKI, and Standards and regulation for secure mobile commerce will take place on 12 January. Launched in September 1999 with Sonera SmartTrust, Gemplus and EDS (Electronic Systems) as initial members, Radicchio is also supported by 724 Solutions, Certicom, Ericsson, Geoworks Corporation, Infineon Technologies, InterClear Service Ltd, Minick AG / Distefora, mobile solutions AG and Setec.

Promoting PKI based security

Radicchio was created to enable a dynamic global market for secure wireless e-commerce. Radicchio raises awareness of the opportunities presented by secure wireless e-commerce through the expansion of its membership. As a consortium of the industry`s leading wireless e-commerce companies, Radicchio will persuade international regulators & government bodies to accelerate the adoption of legislation which supports secure wireless e-commerce globally.

Worldwide co-operation and leadership

Radicchio is well on its way to becoming the worldwide industry voice and authority for PKI enabled secure wireless e-commerce. The members include certification authorities, mobile operators, systems integrators, device manufacturers, software companies, financial institutions, credit card issuers, and telecoms infrastructure companies.
