MTN SA and Altech have signed an agreement whereby Altech`s wholly-owned subsidiary, Altech Autopage Cellular, will continue as an MTN distribution channel for a further five years.

Altech Autopage Cellular and MTN SA have been business partners for the past ten years. According to the latest agreement, MTN SA is committed to supplying its services, for a period of no less than five years, to its long-time distribution partner, Altech Autopage Cellular, SA`s largest independent GSM cellular service provider.

Maanda Manyatshe, MD of MTN SA, has welcomed the signing of the agreement saying: `` While I cannot divulge certain details of the transaction I can say that both MTN SA and Altech Autopage Cellular view them as highly satisfactory. MTN values and invests in long-term beneficial partnerships, which ultimately benefit all of our customers.

``This agreement reflects the importance we place on Altech Autopage Cellular to service these customers as they have the required management, systems, service infrastructure and professionalism to do so" Manyatshe said.

Craig Venter, CEO of Altech, said he was pleased that MTN had committed itself to the five-year agreement and confirmed that Altech Autopage Cellular would be playing an important role for MTN in the years ahead.

"Altech Autopage Cellular truly values its on-going and steadfast relationship with MTN and has proven its status as a reliable and professional partner over the past years. Of additional value to MTN are the more than 145 distribution outlets which Altech Autopage Cellular has countrywide," said Venter. "These outlets provide easy access and important service points to our valued MTN customers."

Venter said Altech Autopage Cellular was proud that it had one of the lowest churn rates in the sector while its average revenue per user (ARPU) was one of the highest.

"This is a clear indication that we are close to our business and our partners. I believe that MTN, by signing this agreement and solidifying our partnership, will continue to reap the benefits of a relationship that has become a win-win situation for both our businesses,`` he said.
