MTN this morning announced that independent non-executive director Douglas Denoon Balharrie Band has resigned from its board.

The company says Band tendered his resignation from the board of directors with effect from the close of business on Friday, 11 March.

Band resigned in order to reduce his workload, according to the company. It adds that he was appointed non-executive director in October 2001.

Band also served as chairman of the Nominations, Remuneration, Human Resource Committee and Corporate Governance Committee. The company has not yet said who will replace Band.

MTN SA CEO Phuthuma Nhleko also leaves the company this month and is being replaced by group chief operating officer Sifiso Dabengwa.

Lambo Kanagaratnam was appointed CTO, after Sameer Dave stepped down from the position late last year.
