MTN has extended the promotion it introduced in September to the end of February.

MTN has extended its international call rates promotion, which gives discounted rates to what it calls "key African, Asian, and European countries".

The promotion gives customers calls from 75c, as well as what MTN says are "competitive rates" to 200 countries, and has been extended to the end of February.

"MTN launched this promotion in September last year. The positive response we received has led the company to extend the promotion for another month," says chief marketing officer at MTN, Brian Gouldie.

MTN has segmented its international call rates into country brackets, offering what it deems the most relevant competitive rates for each destination. Calls to China, India, France, Germany, and Nigeria will be charged at 75c, while calls to other countries such as Angola, Spain, New Zealand, Greece and Thailand will be charged at 99c.

The rate goes up from there, with calls to Lesotho and Mozambique charged at R1.59 per minute, and calls to Swaziland charged at R1.69 per minute. Calls to the largest bracket of countries - including Botswana and Kenya - will cost R1.99 per minute.

Customers are able to view the applicable call rate by dialing *111*2# on their mobile device, or by visiting the operator's Web site.
