The cellular giant plans to open 40 MTN Connection franchise stores before the end of the year: 10 in Gauteng; 10 in the Western Cape; 10 in Kwazulu Natal; 5 in the Free State and 5 in the Eastern Cape.

This initiative will allow current MTN dealers to build their own business. 30% of these stores will be located in peri-urban or rural areas and the percentage of franchise stores owned by the previously disadvantaged is in the region of 30%.

MTN`s national sales manager, Gavin Cohen, believes that franchising is the way to expand the growth of the South African cellular business. "The key is in providing people with the means to empower themselves. Our franchise partners already have the drive and commitment to succeed, we simply provided the vehicle. We see franchising as an important part of our expansion strategy, and integral to our vision of reaching and servicing communities throughout urban and rural South Africa."

MTN Connection stores will cater to all sectors of the market, from executive-level contract users to prepaid users. Because of the focused nature of these stores, MTN will be able to increase the level of customer satisfaction before and after purchase. "We will continue to provide the best selection of products and services, at the best prices."

MTN`s franchise business will supplement the incredible success achieved by its retail and dealer businesses.

As franchising provides the ideal cellular shopping and service environment, it will also ensure that the retail and dealer sectors receive quicker equipment repair and general service.

MTN will build the stores and provide the support infrastructure, marketing and training needed to run a successful business.
