In a multimillion-rand contract with cellular service provider MTN, Dimension Data has completed a project that sees the convergence of voice and data services onto a single core network. The converged network has provided significant cost savings for the company and enabled it to offer its customers a large range of next-generation products and services in a flexible and efficient manner.
The network technology implemented at MTN has already enabled the company to provide South African customers with technology such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and will enable further mobile technologies in the future.
``We chose Dimension Data due to their skills and expertise. They provided us with a Cisco solution, allowing us to make use of our existing technology and enabling us to eventually migrate to completely consolidated technology without having to replace equipment. The Cisco solution ensures maximum availability and also accommodates the growing complexity of our continuously expanding network," says Yvonne Muthien, MTN Group Executive: Corporate Affairs.
"The multi-services network allows for fast reaction times to accommodate new services and the network management system offers scalability and flexibility, which significantly improves efficiencies for the company. It also helps us achieve operational savings in the medium- and long-term, ultimately contributing to enhanced service delivery from MTN," continues Muthien.
``Dimension Data has identified telecommunications as a key market. It is an area of enormous growth potential, especially as more IP (Internet Protocol) services become available," says Leon van Rooyen, strategic account director for MTN at Dimension Data.
"IP services will play a key role in the future of the telecommunications industry and Dimension Data is committed to ensuring that South African companies reap the full benefits of this technology," concludes Van Rooyen.
