Mugg & Bean adds wireless to menu

Mugg & Bean restaurants have signed a deal with M-Web to pilot the provision of cable-free Internet access to the public. Four restaurants in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban will pilot the Internet access.

It is envisaged that business people will be the main users, but M-Web says the offering might prove to be popular with younger people with a strong Internet culture.

M-Web and Airports Company South Africa recently piloted similar WiFi hotspots in domestic and international terminals in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. "With the success of the WiFi hotspots at the airport, M-Web immediately moved to provide a similar service at Mugg & Bean," says Russell Dreisenstock, GM of WiFi at M-Web.

"WiFi is relatively easy to set up and offers a fast and reliable connection to users who are now able to access their e-mail and surf the Internet at times and in places that have been difficult in the past."

Dreisenstock says all Internet users can pay for the service with their credit card, and M-Web members will be able to simply add this service to their M-Web account. A further subscription offer is available for non-members and a pay-as-you-go model will soon be added.

M-Web is investigating opportunities in other markets, and says it expects to make the M-Web WiFi hotspots available in numerous other locations soon.
