Multenet signs contract with TWT Guyana

Multenet Technologies has contracted with TWT Guyana Ltd for the development of a custom script and supply of networking devices for a monitoring and control solution at TWT Guyana Ltd, 23 Cellular tower sites.
Johannesburg, 29 Feb 2004

Multenet has concluded a development contract to supply an Ethernet backbone for a monitoring solution, as per TWT Guyana Ltd`s specification(s). TWT Guyana Ltd has a total of 23 remote cellular sites along Guyana`s coastline and main carriageways. FG Wilson Electrical generators powered by Perkins Diesel engines supply Main and Backup power requirement for each site. Deep Sea Electronics PLC 555 Automatic Mains Failure control panels (DSE 555 AMF) are part of the power supply installation. These 23 sites are approximately 20-30 km apart and represent the first phase of a telecommunications network.

Microwave equipment at each remote tower site will relay any Ethernet (TCP/IP) information originating from any device in the field to TWT Guyana Ltd`s Network Operations Center (NOC). This microwave link will allow the NOC to monitor, configure and diagnose all manageable SNMP devices, in the field. This solution incorporates the connection of an EtherPAD Duo device to the RS485 communication port of the DSE 555 AMF, using the industry standard MODBUS protocol. Using RS485, multiple generators can be chained together and connected to a single controller. The controller is acting as a Master device and the other devices as Slaves in this configuration. Castle Rock SNMPc Manager will be used to monitor and configure all the EtherPAD Duo devices connected to the generators. Thus, providing a single display of all of the devices currently being monitored, in the field, on one single monitor. The EtherPAD Duo is acting as proxy agents, which allows the non-SNMP DSE 555 AMF to be monitored by the Castle Rock SNMPc Manager.

The EtherPAD Duo is based on the proven Multenet code stack embedded on the Net Silicon ARM7 processor. The contract allows for a 2-phase development cycle, starting with the delivery of a fully functional testbed solution, followed by the complete integration.
