Multiplicity makes sense

The value of multiple frameworks in a successful EA practice.

Johannesburg, 16 Jul 2012

The annual Knotion-sponsored seminar for the Computer Society of South Africa (CSSA) is a must-attend action on any EA practitioner's calendar. Attendees at previous seminars have come to appreciate that Knotion has its feet on the ground and its eye on providing smart solutions with real and practical value.

Believing that the success of a mature EA practice lies in the ability to successfully integrate multiple best practice frameworks, Knotion has structured the seminar on combining multiple frameworks to be particularly relevant to the needs of CSSA members.

“A single framework with a dose of wishful thinking is not the solution,” comments Knotion Director, Marius Snel, who will be facilitating the interaction of seminar participants with speakers. “The smart approach is to identify the best frameworks for a customer's business. Skilful integration of relevant frameworks to satisfy the business' architecture requirements will ensure rapid value generation in the context of the customer's unique environment.”

Trivector's Mike Steyn will be sharing his recent experiences applying the Government Wide Enterprise Architecture framework in conjunction with the ArchiMate standard. Enterprise Architect, Mauritz Kloppers, an independent consultant working with Knotion, is going to show how using the right combination of frameworks, CobiT and TOGAF, will complement each other.

Popular speaker and exponent of EA, Etienne Venter, Santam's IT Business Analysis CoE Manager, will speak on the use of multiple frameworks, outlining the key features of TOGAF ADM, BPMN, UML, ArchiMate and others, while giving insight into the use of BABOK and Multiple Notations contained in one solution.

“Whichever system a business prefers, I emphasise that it must be underpinned by good design,” says Venter.

With this seminar, the CSSA is once again providing a valuable forum for its IT practitioner membership to engage with EA experts to share and update knowledge that enhances the competitiveness of South African businesses and the efficiency of its institutions.

CSSA Executive Director, Tony Parry, commented that, in his view: “The Knotion team brings a high degree of credibility to the seminar by virtue of their track record as EA specialists and their status as TOGAF representatives.”

Knotion's core services are in EA consulting and training, which embraces TOGAF Certification training. The company's current impressive list of clients includes the SA Reserve Bank, SA Social Security Agency, Nedbank, Standard Bank, Santam and Murray & Roberts.
