MWEB Business launches broadband VoIP offering

Increased adoption of broadband connectivity among smaller business lead to development of cost-effective ADSL VoIP offering

MWEB Business has today announced the launch of OfficeCall ADSL, its first Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) offering that utilises a broadband Internet connection.

Developed specifically for small to medium enterprises (SMEs), OfficeCall ADSL is aimed at companies that do not have existing private branch exchanges (PBXs) or telecommunication systems.

"The growth in broadband adoption in the SME sector has necessitated us to develop a telephony solution that complements the benefits of having an always-on Internet connection," says Gary Hart, General Manager: Marketing and Products, MWEB Business.

Multiple options

Within the OfficeCall ADSL product portfolio, customers are able to choose from three hardware options:

* OfficeCall Telephone Adapter
* OfficeCall Telephone Handset
* OfficeCall Voice Router

Existing ADSL subscribers can utilise the OfficeCall Telephone Adapter offering to place VoIP and regular telephone calls by using the same handset. Customers place calls as they normally would, as the adapter automatically determines the lowest cost route for the call to reach its end destination.

The OfficeCall Telephone Handset is a stand-alone desktop VoIP telephone that connects to an ADSL router, enabling customers to place calls over the MWEB Business VoIP network.

Businesses that require a VoIP service but either do not have an existing ADSL router or wish to upgrade their current router can select the OfficeCall VoIP Router option. The OfficeCall VoIP Router is a converged voice and data ADSL router that has a built-in telephone adapter, enabling customers to place traditional and VoIP telephone calls over a single analogue handset. In the event of the ADSL router being unavailable, calls are automatically routed over the customer`s fixed line.

All three hardware options are provided with a set of standard services, which includes access to MWEB Business` VoIP and LCR platforms, a VoIP telephone number as well as access to an online bill and detailed call records. A minimum ADSL speed of 512K is recommended for OfficeCall products.

Cost-effective

Installation of OfficeCall ADSL is simple, and there is no need for businesses to reinvest in their networks or telephone systems. LCR enables companies to make calls at substantially reduced rates, for example savings of up to 35% on South African cellular calls, up to 12% on national calls as well as up to 60% savings on international calls.

In addition, inter-branch calls and calls between the MWEB Business VoIP community are free.

"The OfficeCall ADSL range was developed to provide smaller businesses with a cost effective communication solution that uses the broadband platform - a connectivity method that is becoming increasingly pervasive in this sector," adds Hart. Pricing and availability

All products in the OfficeCall ADSL range are available immediately. Customers incur a once-off set-up fee from R99 00, and a monthly rent-to-own fee from R49 00 per month for a 24 month period. All prices quoted include VAT. Customers are invoiced monthly for all calls made on the MWEB Business VoIP network.

MWEB Business` VoIP products are also provided with 24-hour maintenance and support.
