MWEB Business to offer Hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server

BlackBerry Enterprise Server functionality without the need to purchase a server.

Johannesburg, 05 Aug 2009

MWEB Business announced today that it is launching a Hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server solution to its clients.

The Hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server solution provided by MWEB Business enables companies to increase mobile productivity by giving their employees BlackBerry smartphones to access corporate e-mail, shared calendar, contacts, corporate data and other business applications, but without having to purchase, install or manage the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software themselves.

“BlackBerry Enterprise Server enables an organisation's employees to collaborate with colleagues and communicate with clients more effectively,” said Herman Jansen van Rensburg, Head of Product Management and Development at MWEB Business. “Thanks to this hosted solution, smaller businesses can enjoy the full benefit of the collaboration tools featured in the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution for an affordable monthly fee.”

The Hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server from MWEB Business does not require customers to buy, install or manage their own BlackBerry Enterprise Server since they can outsource their complete e-mail environment (including Microsoft Exchange and BlackBerry Enterprise Server) to MWEB instead. This service also removes the need for any upfront software costs, deployment overheads or ongoing server support costs. Hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server offers the same security and functionality of the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution through a fully outsourced and hosted version of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, in conjunction with MWEB's Hosted Exchange Platform.

The addition of the Hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server to MWEB's existing Hosted Exchange offering means that clients can now extend their Exchange functionality and features to their BlackBerry smartphones, without incurring any additional costs to their Hosted Exchange service, and reap the benefits of being mobile.

MWEB will offer the Hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server service free to new and existing MWEB Hosted Exchange customers for a six-month period, commencing today.

Some of the key features of the Hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server service include:

* BlackBerry "Push" technology, which enables the automatic delivery of a message to a BlackBerry smartphone as it is received on the Exchange server
* Wireless synchronisation of all e-mail and calendar activities with users' Microsoft Exchange mailboxes
* Compose, send, read, forward, reply to, and delete e-mail messages
* File e-mail messages into synchronised sub-folders manually or automatically
* Full access to the company's contact address lists when online
* View and forward e-mail attachments
* Add, edit and delete calendar entries and invite attendees
* Add, edit and delete contacts, tasks and notes

“Additional benefits of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server solution include improving communication between co-workers, streamlining operations, turning downtime into productive time and getting more business done in a day,” said Jansen van Rensburg.

Hosted Exchange is available at R75 per user per month, and the addition of the Hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server will be at no charge for the first six months. Customers can either use their existing BlackBerry smartphone and contract (with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server tariff), or take out an MWEB Business supplied contract, which is bundled with a BlackBerry smartphone. These contracts are currently available on the Vodacom network.
