Namibians travelling to northern Namibia to celebrate Heroes Day at Ongulumbashe will not need to worry about not being able to reach their families and loved ones.
In line with its national responsibility and the significance attached to Heroes Day, Namibia's leading mobile, MTC, has extended network coverage to Omgulumbashe, the historic site where the famed Namibian armed struggled was launched on 26 August 1966.
Ongulumbashe is again the venue for this year's Heroes Day celebrations, on 26 August. The network has been live for the past week to allow protocol personnel and members of the national preparatory committee on the site to stay in contact with fellow senior government officials, who are expected to accompany president Hifikepunye Pohamba to Ongulumbashe, and government ministers as well as other dignitaries.
MTC's General Manager for Corporate Affairs, Albertus Aochamub, said the network coverage at Ongulumbashe is meant to provide peace of mind to all those who will attend the event.
“We all know that Namibians have become very dependent on their handsets as a main means of communication. Without network connectivity, they are unable to use their phones and that can be frustrating when you need to communicate to your loved ones, friends and colleagues,” said Aochamub.
We always emphasise that MTC is about serving the nation, and for events such as Heroes Day, we are always pleased to be of service to the nation.”
In conclusion, Aochamub wished all Namibians happy Heroes Day, saying that it was incumbent on all nationals to always remember the sacrifices made by the living and foreign heroes and heroines for the present generation to live in harmony, peace and tranquillity.
