Nampak Liquid Packaging implements BURO

By PRAGMA
Johannesburg, 21 Jan 2001

Nampak Liquid Packaging (NLP) saw the opportunity and decided to implement the PRAGMA`sBURO Service as a national maintenance management solution, which in turn yielded the added benefits of internal benchmarking and standardisation among the factories. Implementation of the BURO service at 5 NLP sites was completed during December 1997.

Tjaart van der Walt, Operations Manager, had this to say about NLP`s motivation for implementing the BURO service and what they expected to achieve from this implementation.

"NLP has chosen the BURO service that PRAGMA offers for the following reasons:

* Administration of a preventative maintenance system is very specialised and requires unique skills and equipment that is costly.

* The effective and efficient implementation of a preventative maintenance system requires experience and the cost is often once off.

* Unbiased co-ordination, recording and reporting of the maintenance programme to the plants.

Our expectations are high:

* We expect the system to be a system for the Floor, designed by them and maintained by them.

* We expect the plant to be more available.

* We expect higher efficiencies and this must reduce our cost of manufacturing and make us more productive.

* We expect our quality of production to improve and make us more competitive.

* We expect quick returns."

The BURO service has provided NLP with these capabilities through:

* Better job planning.

* Continuous improvement of practices.

* Drive and focus on planned maintenance.

"The results have been one of a standardised, utilised and sustainable maintenance management solution for NLP," says Alan Tait, PRAGMA Business Development Manager.
