Comparex Africa has been awarded a R70 million ICT outsourcing contract with international packaging giant Nampak. The initial three-year outsourcing service will include data centre, helpdesk, local area network and end-user services, and a number of large-scale ICT projects for some 120 Nampak facilities across southern Africa.
The outsourcing contract will play a major role in enabling Nampak to achieve its strategic ICT standardisation and centralisation objectives. In time, Nampak will expand the services to include Nampak`s international operations and the incorporation of Malbak, which was recently acquired by Nampak.
According to independent research conducted by BMI-TechKnowledge, Comparex Africa holds more than 38% of the South African ICT outsourcing market and this recent deal will underline the ICT integrators` role as the dominant local outsourcing provider. The company won the deal over stiff competition from other SA and international integrators because of its unique value proposition and superior track record in large-scale outsourcing ventures.
According to Peter Berthold, Comparex Africa Business Executive for Nampak, the Nampak decision was taken to go to tender for an ICT integrator that would be delivery-oriented, have a great cultural fit with Nampak and a history of effective outsource service delivery. "They chose Comparex Africa because it has all those elements plus a proven ability to deliver superior service and support to their clients," he said. Nampak is a large conglomeration of decentralised businesses, each with its own autonomous business processes and the company decided Comparex Africa was the best qualified ICT integrator to assist Nampak in centralising its IT processes, to realise sizeable cost savings and greatly reduce total cost of ownership.
Berthold further comments: "Our value proposition uniquely matched Nampak`s requirements because we made it our business to understand their requirements and their objectives in moving forward with their ICT strategy. Ultimately our mission and success is based on making our clients more successful and our role as Nampak`s IT service provider of choice will enable them to implement and reap the benefits of a centralised and standardised ICT architecture."
Berthold says Comparex Africa`s wide national footprint will enable Comparex to provide quality services to the over 100 Nampak sites across southern Africa.
"The Nampak outsourcing process was one of the most thorough and professional large-scale outsourcing processes ever executed in SA. Comparex is excited about the opportunity to play an integral role in enabling Nampak to gain the enhanced financial and operational benefits to be had from our national outsourcing, services and solutions model," he concluded.
