Nanoteq becomes RSA Security VAR

Johannesburg, 23 Nov 2000

Moving to extend its channel throughout the southern African region, RSA has appointed security technology stalwart, Nanoteq as a value-added reseller (VAR) and systems integrator.

Formed some twelve years ago developing and supplying proprietary security products to government, Nanoteq recently re-focused its efforts to become a full security solutions provider. This spans the entire spectrum of the security life-cycle from business analysis, security , solution design and implementation to maintenance and support.

Nanoteq has had previous exposure to RSA`s technology as a result of a Europe-wide agreement through its holding company Comparex. However, the subsequent sale of Comparex`s networking division to Dimension Data earlier this year also meant the cessation of the RSA agreement - thus the re-establishment of a RSA/Comparex global partnership which has permeated to a local level.

"As a company that focuses exclusively on providing total security solutions, it is critical that we have access to the best standards-based technologies," says Nelius Snyman, CEO at Nanoteq. "One of the first developments of the agreement is the qualification of an engineering contingent who will focus on RSA Keon, the globally accepted public key management system suite and the RSA SecureID two-factor authentication range. And this is just the start: the aim is to become a fully accredited partner for the entire range of RSA technologies."

Snyman identifies three areas in Nanoteq`s security offering which is branded as KeySecure: healthcheck which concerns issues such as business risk analysis, penetration testing and vulnerability assessments; knowledge sharing and the establishment of security policies; and solution engineering making use of best-of-breed technologies.

"RSA`s SecureID and Keon technologies greatly augment our security offerings," says Snyman. "This is where our strength lies: we can take different products and put together solutions to satisfy business security requirements and particularly those associated with e-commerce."

Peter Burgess, territory manager at RSA Security South Africa, adds that while the need for comprehensive security solutions are being taken seriously by some organisations particularly as they move towards the e-world, the industry at large still tends to underestimate the seriousness of a security breach to the organisation.

"However, in light of the recent attacks and the theft of confidential software involving a number of large multinationals, we expect to local companies taking a more proactive approach towards security.

"And so much more the need for best security practices and the appointment of partners who are skilled in all aspects surrounding total security provision. The appointment of Nanoteq greatly complements our VAR and systems integration channel in the region and we are confident of strong business growth as a result."
