Nanum Nanotecnologia S.A., a Brazilian company, is pleased to announce that it is supplying functionalised, water-based, high-concentrated magnetic dispersion to HP for the security magnetic inkjet ink MICR.
Nanum was chosen by HP for its ability to develop, scale and produce nanomaterials with the highest control standards. It has showcased the possibility of using nanotechnology on existing industrial applications, overcoming the initial cost barriers and providing customised products and solutions to its clients.
The product is a very high concentrated ferrofluid with a high stability and with the average particle size of about 50 nanometres. This ferromagnetic fluid is used in thermal inkjet systems to print financial documents using the MICR technology.
Since the magnetic particles are solids and insoluble in water, they need to be very small to prevent the cartridge's nozzles from clogging, but on the other hand, a high concentration of these small solid particles must be present to guarantee a good magnetic signal response. This is where Nanum provides innovative solutions through proprietary processes, which allow a bond of other chemicals and additives to the nanoparticles, creating very stable water base dispersion with up to 50% of solids.
