Business Connexion has been recognised by the National CSI Registrar, a member of the South African Department of Social Development, for its efforts in uplifting and furthering South African society and its people. Certification by the National CSI Registrar positions Business Connexion as a true champion of South African development and a valued community contributor.
As part of its formal accreditation and acknowledgement programme, the National CSI Registrar has awarded Business Connexion national Gold Community Contributor status.
The certificate states: “Business Connexion has made a meaningful difference towards aiding and uplifting a countless number of this nation's citizens out of hardship and away from suffering. South Africa as a country, as well as the society we all share, is a better place thanks to the social investments and ongoing, caring efforts of the CSI team of Business Connexion.”
The National CSI Registrar is South Africa's national grading authority and sector moderator of all aspects and activities attributed to corporate social investment (CSI) in the country.
Benjamin Mophatlane, CEO of Business Connexion, says: “We are honoured to have received this recognition from the National CSI Registrar. It effectively endorses our ongoing efforts to empower young people to change their lives, as well as those of their communities, through technology.”
Business Connexion is currently running the following five national CSI programmes: school development programmes; the Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club; WWF Eco-School programme; Rally to Read; and an IT Business Learnership Programme (ITBLP).
In addition, the company has included 10 charitable NGOs and Article 18 companies as part of its black economic empowerment (BEE) deal.
“The majority of our CSI funding is allocated towards implementing IT laboratories in partnerships with schools. We focus mainly on rural schools and those in underprivileged communities,” Mophatlane says. “The investment in these IT laboratories extends beyond infrastructure implementation to encompass a two-year commitment from Business Connexion to partner with the schools to ensure a full understanding of the technology.”
Examples of this programme include Irene Primary School, which have received the complete Business Connexion iLab Turnkey solution. This involves a fully fitted IT laboratory with its own classroom.
At Matladi Primary School, in Limpopo, Business Connexion adopted the school and refurbished two existing classrooms into IT laboratories. This included repairing the classrooms and fitting a complete IT infrastructure with 50 computer workstations.
