The recent release of Teradata 6.0 from National Data Systems` (NDS) parent company NCR, brings customer service to the front lines - literally. Designed to help businesses better service customers by arming staff with up-to-the- minute customer information, the new software gives front-line employees such call centre agents, shipping clerks, customer service representatives, and airline gate agents access to customer information for making quick service decisions or customised offers. Using a Web browser or other interface, these employees are able to access the wealth of customer information stored in their company`s data warehouse. With this technology, a call centre agent, for example, would have access to customer information gleaned moments ago when the customer visited the company Web site. This "active data warehousing" technology can support up to 4.2 billion end users. With this capacity, even the largest companies can connect all of their employees and even suppliers.
E- businesses, whose primary customer interface is the Web site, can benefit from the speed in which customer data is available. The NCR data warehouse can feed customer information to the Web site`s customisation software, which can then create a personal online experience, based on current data. Companies that don`t serve consumers directly can also benefit from quick access to customer and supplier data.
These business- to- business organisations can provide access to their data warehouses to suppliers, who can use the information to manage their production and shipment schedules. Employees can now better manage the business-to-business relationships with access to current customer data.
