Neotel loses Fani Zulu

Johannesburg, 25 Apr 2008

Six months after Fani Zulu joined Neotel as its executive head of external affairs and communications, the communications veteran is going back to troubled power utility Eskom.

"Neotel can confirm that Zulu will leave the organisation to take up the position of senior GM of group communications at Eskom," says spokesperson Zinhle Modiselle.

Zulu's appointment at Eskom is effective from 1 May, she says. However, he will still be available to Neotel during May to assist with the transition, she notes.

Zulu joined Neotel in October last year, following a long tenure as Eskom's spokesman. He says he is looking forward to the challenge of engaging South Africans with regard to the issue of power , despite the fact that the task is daunting.

"The security of power supply is no longer an Eskom issue but a national challenge and I am honoured to be part of the solution. It's a daunting task ahead but one that is not insurmountable."

Zulu says Neotel also offers an exciting challenge in its own right. Neotel is a start-up and within time it will become a household name and a significant player in the ICT sector. "I will miss out on that challenge," he says.

Modiselle says the company is looking for Zulu's replacement. Neotel and Eskom have a strong relationship, as Eskom holds a 15% stake in Neotel.

The rest of Neotel is held by Transnet (15%), Nexus Connection (19%), Communitel (12.5%), Two Consortium (12.5%) and VSNL/Tata Group (26%).
