A Cape Town IT recruitment company, Datafin, has launched a bursary scheme to help an unemployed matriculant obtain a .Net programming qualification and then help place that person in employment.

Datafin and training company IT Intellect will share the R26 500 costs of the .Net course, which will enable a person to become a qualified Microsoft Certified Solution Developer for .Net.

Datafin MD Lindy Sollinger says the real challenge is not in finding the right person to do the course, but rather the actual placement with a company that will be happy to take on an inexperienced employee and, in effect, offer him or her a learnership position.

"We place, on average, two or three .Net programmers per month and the demand is certainly out there for them. However, companies want experienced people, preferably those with degrees or diplomas and only then will they consider those who have just completed courses," she says.

Sollinger believes that a young, ambitious person who needs a leg up could compete effectively in the ICT sector if they are given the right mentorship.

The potential candidate must have a matric certificate, be unemployed and have done no other tertiary courses. The candidate will also have to complete an aptitude test with IT Intellect.

Applications have to be submitted by 15 July. For more information, go to www.datafin.co.za.
