The University of Botswana has boosted its technology infrastructure thanks to a donation from the World Bank and a contract with Net-runna SA.
A Net-runna SA spokesman says the installation of Net-runna Enterprise was completed recently.
Net-runna Enterprise is a centrally controlled, rapid software deployment system that provides automated data recovery from the desktop or server.
By eliminating the need to download applications manually from CD, applications are loaded within four minutes to relevant computers on the network from a single machine, simply by rebooting, says Net-runna.
For the University of Botswana, this means machines in all laboratories can run on "clean machines", but still have access to specific programs such as those for engineering or business, the spokesman says.
The contract awarded by the University of Botswana is worth about R500 000.
In addition, a mass installation of about 1 000 new computers and laboratories took place over the past six months with all hardware being donated by the Botswana government and the World Bank. The project was run through Net-runna`s channel partner, Tecol Botswana.
Net-runna also looks set to make an appearance in SA`s tertiary institutions, with the University of Johannesburg considering installing the software next year, according to Net-runna.
