NetIQ, an Attachmate business, announced AppManager 7 - the core technology for the AppManager suite - at the Microsoft Management Summit in the US, and it has already won the Best Management Product by a Microsoft Partner award for 2007.
The product, distributed and supported in South Africa by 10Net ICT Solutions, improves IT management productivity and visibility and exploits new technologies such as VMware ESX Server, Microsoft SharePoint and Exchange Server 2007, BlackBerry Enterprise Server, Oracle Grid Computing, and Cisco or Nortel IP Telephony (VOIP) solutions.
"NetIQ continues to impress me with how they improve and extend NetIQ AppManager Suite so we truly maximise our investment in IT. I don't have the luxury of overhauling my IT management software each time a vendor decides to launch a new product.
"We must leverage past investments and scale to manage new applications in a distributed, heterogeneous and virtualised environment," says Louis Oliver, senior technical engineer at Mary Kay. "I expect that AppManager 7's new automation functionality, including the auto-deployment capability, will ensure we not only improve our ability to deliver IT services, but do so without adding additional burden to our team."
AppManager 7 squarely addresses the challenges enterprise customers have around establishing greater control over their IT environment and maximising return on their IT investments.
By providing them with technology that can drive task automation in conjunction with performance monitoring across their Windows, UNIX and Linux systems, AppManager 7 ensures they are better able to meet the ever-increasing demands of dynamic business services, virtualised environments and unified communications.
Moreover, AppManager 7 provides a flexible platform with native support for key technologies to ensure seamless systems management while reducing the total cost of technology ownership.
"With AppManager 7, we are delivering the industry's most comprehensive systems and application management solution for enterprises looking to control their existing environments while planning for future technology adoption," says Chris Pick, VP of products and marketing at NetIQ.
"IT operations cannot manage tomorrow's businesses with yesterday's technologies and while Microsoft and other competitors continue to pave where the path is worn, NetIQ continues to innovate and anticipate future IT demands."
The product reflects more than 11 years of industry leadership and technology innovation in over 6 400 enterprise deployments worldwide. The latest version includes greater automation and enterprise readiness required to bridge gaps in subject matter expertise, and dynamically adapt to system changes in real-time, to drive higher levels of IT staff productivity. Features found in AppManager 7 include:
* Zero-touch remote deployment of agents and knowledge scripts, eliminating manual installation and upgrade;
* Automated detection of platforms and applications in dynamic and virtualised heterogeneous environments to ensure accurate monitoring in accordance with policy;
* Policy-exception management capabilities to override job parameters and easily accommodate unique requirements;
* Enhanced service mapping and native business service management capabilities for cost-effective modelling of IT services; and
* Permissions delegation of management group and view administration functions to non-administrator users to reduce the cost of ongoing maintenance.
It integrates with other NetIQ products, such as AppManager Response Time modules for end-to-end transaction monitoring, and Analysis Centre for more enterprise-level reporting on real-time system utilisation and performance, service level metrics, and predictive trend and analysis, so IT can anticipate capacity bottlenecks and future requirements.
Selected by the editors of Windows IT Pro and SQL Server Magazine, winners of the Best of Microsoft Management Summit (MMS) awards demonstrate and deliver the most innovative management products or services that directly benefit the Windows network environment.
AppManager 7 was selected from a pool of over 50 IT management products and was chosen as a result of its strategic importance to the market, its competitive advantages and the overall value it delivers to customers.
"Competition was definitely fierce for this year's Best of MMS awards, as companies continued to exhibit the ability to develop products that support the trend of IT automation," says Michael Otey, Technical Director for Windows IT Pro.
