NetRecova re-routes private lines to a back-up site, enabling voice trading to be continued within two hours of the main dealing room going off-line. "Business continuity planning is a high priority for our clients," said Graham Boyes, manager of Network Business Development.

SMEs plan for disaster recovery

Disaster recovery is not about recovering from a disaster, but planning for one, as business continuity is crucial, and involves up-to-date technology and well-trained IT staff members who can implement the recovery plan, reports ComputerWeekly.

Businesses need to be up-and-running at all times, and in the SME arena, it is even more crucial, because resources and budgets are usually scarcer, and a disaster can easily damage their credibility.

SMEs can use a number of resources, case studies, advice columns and tips to help them plan and maintain a disaster recovery plan.

Businesses not prepared for disaster

AT&T has released the results of a business continuity preparedness study. The results show that 30% of businesses are not prepared for a disaster, reports Monsters and Critics.

From the 10 cities surveyed, businesses in New York came out first in terms of being the most prepared for natural and man-made disasters.

While 30% of companies surveyed admitted that business continuity planning is not a priority, AT&T said the results suggest that companies may have a false sense of security.
