Network Associates gears up for channel thrust

Johannesburg, 13 Dec 1999

In line with a worldwide initiative to move more of its business through the channel, leading company, Network Associates, has announced a number of developments which are expected to boost the local operation and contribute to future revenues.

According to Lloyd Wood, who has succeeded industry stalwart Brenda Crook as country manager of Network Associates Africa, there has been a phenomenal increase in demand for the company`s range of security and network management solutions.

"It can be attributed partly to the proliferation of viruses, the enormous increase in network security violations and critical Y2K issues. This has meant a restructuring and streamlining of our sales and marketing operation to meet these requirements and has culminated in us adopting a broader channel orientated model."

The company will bolster its operation by providing improved support for its channel partners. This will include the provision of specialist engineering staff in critical areas such as network security integration and consolidation; enhanced 24x7 global help-desk facilities and pre- and post-sales technical support.

Wood also notes that recent international partnerships with some of the world`s leading development and consulting organisations are expected to rollout locally in the new year.

"These partnerships - coupled with the significant strides we`ve made in the development of network security and management solutions which allow companies to easily integrate existing products from other vendors with those from Network Associates - are expected to further enhance revenues and expansion into the sub-continent," he says.

Commenting on the recent developments, Crook, who has spearheaded the local operation since its inception, said: "I am delighted to hand over the reins at this pivotal stage in the local company`s history. The strong foundation that has been forged over the past two years will be the springboard for untold growth as the E-commerce boom resonates throughout South Africa."

Wood concludes: "As corporations increasingly rely on IT to realise their business initiatives - particularly in the burgeoning world of E-commerce - they must ensure that their networks are as secure as possible. Because Network Associates is at the forefront of technological developments in network management and security, we will play a vital role in securing this new virtual marketplace."
