Local organisations are finding it difficult to decide whether to converge local area networks (LAN) and storage area networks (SAN).
So says Steven Kramer, IBM line of business executive at Business Connexion, who adds that companies also seem not to realise the benefits that come with converging these networks.
To find how local organisations are handling their networking infrastructure, ITWeb, in partnership with Business Connexion, yesterday unveiled the Network Infrastructure Survey 2012.
Among other issues, the study seeks to ascertain the extent to which organisations host or outsource their infrastructure.
It also aims to discover if organisations' networking infrastructures are currently able to implement a cloud solution, and to what degree organisations have implemented a converged network.
According to market research firm Forrester, existing networking infrastructures are too rigid and too old to support the orchestration of services needed to optimise a user's experience.
In that vein, Kramer urges businesses to make the correct decision on converging LAN and SAN networks by accurately determining their requirements and proposing the best-fit solution.
“They should then negotiate with vendors for the best price and implement the solution properly,” he explains.
Survey participants stand a chance to win a Samsung Galaxy Tab. The results of this survey, together with the name of the winner of the prize draw, will be published on ITWeb.
