Network Platforms announces DrayTek Vigor2850 series

Johannesburg, 05 Jun 2012

Network Platforms, the sub-Saharan distributor for DrayTek, today announced the Vigor2850 series, its range of VDSL modems.

The DrayTek's Vigor2850 series is a configurable DSL multimode Security Firewall, which supports VDSL2 and ADSL+ on a single WAN interface, thus providing future-proof connection choices for current and next-generation network infrastructures, which will bring benefits for both professional users and small offices.

“VDSL is the next-generation speed of ADSL,” commented Bradley Love, Managing Director of Network Platforms, “and Telkom SA has already announced that they are starting to roll-out VDSL trials in certain areas. Thus, we needed the capability of offering a modem that is compatible with previous ADSL standards, ie, the DrayTek 2850n series.”

“When VDSL is released in a particular area, you will - with the DrayTek 2850n series - be able to support the faster speed,” continued Love, “and this is an important consideration when replacing or purchasing your next ADSL router.

“The other advantage of the Vigor 2850n series is that it supports IP6,” concluded Love. “Many Internet service providers are rolling out IP6 infrastructures as a direct result of the shortage of IP4 addresses.”

The Vigor2850 series also supports DrayTek's SmartMonitor network activity management application, which captures real live data of activities in a managed network, such as the content of MSN entering to or out of a network. With this tool, it is possible to track specified files download/upload or view statistics on data type activities to realise what corporate related information has been released accidentally or deliberately.
